LDR 601 : Leadership Theory and Practice

This course, through various questionnaires, enabled me to assess and reflect on my personal leadership by taking inventory of my strengths and areas for growth. These assessments were grounded in both historical and contemporary best practices and theories of leadership. In the summative portion of the course, I researched one biblical and one secular business leader, allowing me to evaluate their leadership styles and empowering me to observe leadership in action from both spiritual and practical perspectives.

LDR 603 : Personality and Leadership

This course helped us understand that leadership is a skill that can be developed through intentionality and self-awareness. It invited us to question the balance between nature and nurture in shaping leadership ability. Through various personality assessments, we were able to identify both our conscious and subconscious strengths, learning how to empower those qualities while also gaining valuable insights from our blind spots.

LDR 608 : Leadership and Administration

This course primarily explored the difference between a successful administrator and a successful leader. Ultimately, it concluded that leadership is transformational, fostering growth and change, while administration tends to produce more transactional relationships focused on tasks and outcomes. Additionally, the course highlighted that while specialists may be promoted for their expertise, it is often generalists, those with broader perspective and adaptability, who rise to positions of leadership.

LDR 609 : Leadership and Spirituality

In this course, we took an introspective look at ourselves, with a particular focus on our spiritual practices. It challenged us to adopt new disciplines that nurture the soul and keep us grounded as we lead others. The course offered a unique pace and rhythm, encouraging us to question our biases and examine our deeper motivations for wanting to lead. The assignments provided a fresh lens through which to view leadership, prompting reflection and transformation in both thought and practice.

LDR 606 : Leadership Seminar and Field Experience

This course provided a unique opportunity to put our emerging skills, thoughts, and plans into action as we performed our roles of influence in the field. It also offered space for contextualization, particularly during the retreat, where we could reflect and recalibrate our approaches. The biggest takeaway from this month was embracing the call to curiosity exploring all the doors God has for our calling and remaining open to the unexpected paths that unfold along the way.

LDR 602 : Cultural Intelligence for Christian Leaders

With the world advancing and the crossing of cultures at an all-time high, this course recognized that shift. The content within the course aimed to transform our diverse teams into thriving intercultural communities where differences are not only acknowledged but valued, respected, and potentially leveraged. To achieve this, the course required us to conduct interviews, immersing ourselves in real-world experiences that challenged our preconceived cultural biases.

LDR 604 : Professional & Ethical Decision Making

Leaders are entrusted with making decisions, and this course explored that responsibility in depth. We examined mental models that influence how and why we make decisions, along with the ethical and moral frameworks that shape our judgment. We also reflected on our core virtues both the ones we inherently hold and those we seek to cultivate. All of this was approached through the lens of Scripture, where our decisions are guided by the wisdom, conviction, and discernment of the Holy Spirit.

LDR 605 : Strategic Leadership

This class emphasized that truly successful organizations are driven by a deeper "why." While the how, referring to the guiding principles, and the what, the direct product or service, are important, it is the authenticity and action behind the why that ultimately lead to lasting impact. We explored actionable approaches to building trust, candor, and tactical planning, studied real-world case organizations, researched existing companies, and even developed our own organizational whys to better understand purpose-driven leadership.

LDR 610 : Organizational Leadership, Governance, & Culture

This course helped us realize that leadership skills are stackable and that the most effective leadership strategies often shift depending on the specific challenges faced within an institution. We examined four key sectors of organizational life: Structural, Human Resource, Political, and Symbolic and explored the unique implications of each. The Consultation Project, our summative assignment, with a client from our very own institution, provided a tangible, hands-on experience that brought these concepts to life.
